Synthesis of Ethyl Cinnamate

Prepare various medicines in advance. Take an appropriate amount of cinnamic acid and place it in a clean reaction vessel. Take anhydrous ethanol and pour it slowly. The amount of ethanol should be sufficient to fully react with cinnamic acid. And add a little concentrated sulfuric acid as a catalyst. The use of concentrated sulfuric acid can promote the speed of the reaction.

Put this mixture on a water bath and heat it slowly. The water bath can be heated evenly to prevent the medicine from being changed due to uneven heating. Wash it with a saturated sodium carbonate solution, so remove the residual acid. After washing, rinse it with distilled water several times until the wash solution is neutral.

Finally, the washed ethyl cinnamate is placed in a distillation device and distilled to obtain pure ethyl cinnamate. During distillation, control its temperature, so that ethyl cinnamate is slowly steamed out and collected in a clean container.
